This website is a work in progress. If you’ve found it early, hello! My name is Jemma – here is a bit about my work
With a love for macabre and a unique sense of style, this artist draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including folk stories, decaying architecture, and even true crime cases. The artist’s talent lies in the ability to repurpose objects that would otherwise be considered undesirable and turn them into pieces of art that are both intriguing and beautiful.
The name Ōtepoti Renaissance is inspired by the optimistic belief that creativity and art will flourish during these difficult times, much as it did during the bubonic plague. Making art has been a source of joy and escape for the artist, who has had to navigate challenging health issues.
If you’re a lover of unique and unconventional art that combines the beauty of the unexpected with a hint of the macabre, then Ōtepoti Renaissance is the artist for you. Check out their new website and explore their stunning collection of maximalist home decor and art. You never know, you might just find the perfect conversation starter for your mantelpiece!
As of right now my pieces are available on Etsy, as well as collections of digital files I have been converting from vintage illustrations into colouring pages for the better part of the last year. I am currently working on a cohesive collection of new sculptures as well as a hand-drawn coloring book, collages and other artworks behind the scenes – and building a website apparently!
